The port in Gao is always busy and entertaining. There are boat loads of people coming and going to various towns up and down the Niger, people swimming, washing their clothes, collecting water, fishing boats coming and going, all up it's a hive of activity!

Standing and watching the chaos that can be the port at Gao is certainly an entertaining way to spend an hour or so and can make for some great pictures. It certainly isn't the biggest or the busiest port in Mali but the fact that it's a little quieter allows for all of the other things you don't often see in places like Mopti- eg people washing their clothes and swimming next to the town.
