The place is special. A city in the middle of the desert. There is only one hotel in the city--and that used to be a French fortress You can fly there from Bamako or you can get there by renting a boat (in Bamako) and sail your way there on the Niger river. Sailing on the Niger is nice and you can get a chance to see a hyppo an lots of zebu.

abandon place in decert with tuareg people, strange buildings and perfect musical festival every year

Tourist trap... Chinguetti in Mauritania is closer to what most people dream Timbuktu is.
