Getting there:
Follow a map to the Black River Gorges National Park! There are several entrances and if you fancy hiking up through the Gorges go for the entrance near Grande Riviere Noire and if you want to hike down I'd start either at Le Petrin and walk along the Macchabe trail or along the Plaine Champagne and walk down the Parakeet Trail (all marked and maps available at the visitor centres).

Dec 21, 2008 A beautiful National Park with many interesting trails and viewpoints. Not the biggest National Park in the world and most trails should only take a couple of hours to complete but well worth the effort. Some of the trails are hard going so do be prepared and don 't go in flip flops and sandals (as I have seen many people do) and don't forget that this is the tropics so take plenty of water and suncream (again, I've seen many people walking here with nothing at all with them). The many viewpoints let you get great photos across the gorges and of the waterfalls scattered among them. There are several trails to walk and whilst the public displays at the visitors centres are pretty poor, you can at least get maps of the traisl from there. Enjoy!
