Ah, Isla Mujeres.....it is the most beautiful island I have ever been to, and I have been to many. The name of the island is "The Island of women" and there are two explanations why it received such a name. One says that the ancient Maya people gave it that name since the first rays of sun, when sun rose out of its sleep, landed on that island, therefore making it the most beautiful. Second explanation says that the island got that name because Christopher Columbus and other emperors of the Yucatan peninsula used to keep the most beautiful women as their lovers on thatisland. It is located near Cancun and Mayan Riviera. You need to take a short ferry ride to get to it, which is a gorgeous experience in itself. As you cross the ocean, you can see 7 different shades of blue in the ocean. The place has many sandy white beaches where you can just simply take in all the sunshine or you can swim, snorkel or scuba dive in the crystal clear blue waters. You can also purchase many beautiful souvenirs and eat some really delicious food. This place has everything - people who come for a day's visit, usually stay an extra day or two.
