May 25, 2010 Nice but very touristy place. They say it is the city with the fastest growing population in Mexico! Better than Cancun but not as authentic as Tulum. Playa offers great hotels and restaurants :) Feb 12, 2009 Playa del Carmen is a great alternative for those of us who want to enjoy the warm crystal blue waters of the Mexican Carribean coast or explore the ancient Mayan ruins, but don't want to endure the dirty party atmosphere of Cancun. The area is extremely affordable and packed full of all-inclusive resorts within easy walking or biking distance from downtown. Downtown Playa is full of the typical souvenir shops (some of which have free tequila tastings!) but it's also full of great food experiences. From tradiational Mayan food restaurants to street tacos and fruit stands. My favorite memory of staying here is eating the best street tacos I've ever had in my life (and I didn't get sick), topping them off with fresh watermelon, mango, coconut, pineapple, and honey dew spears that we bought for $1 at the nearby fruit stands. Playa is also just a short ferry ride away from Cozumel, home to some of the best diving in the world. Oct 12, 2008 Are you looking for the paradise? Don t look anymore... Playa del Carmen is situated on the Riviera Maya, at one hour south of Cancun. The colors of see is wonderful. You have water until your knees and you can still see yours feet. You have a nice street market and the nightlife there is nice. I prefer Playa del Carmen than Cancun. Playa is smaller but in Cancun, except the hotel zone you don t have anything. Even the hotel zone is boring during the day. Only at night it s interesting with top nightclubs such as Coco Bongo, Daddy O, ... I thus recommend you to stay in Playa and do an excursion to Cancun. Jun 9, 2008 Playa del Carmen is located right next to Cancun. It has everything Cancun has: gorgeous beaches, blue ocean, an awsome party scene, great shopping - all except the drunken college kids who are there to trash the place and act like morrons. You can actually take your family there and have a great time. And since it is not directly Cancun, the prices are much cheaper - especially fi you get one of those all inclusive deals. Related Links
