In the same year, Khatgal became an administrative center in the region. In 1931 (encyclopedia.thefreedictionary.com/1931) it became the center of the newly established Khovsgol Province (encyclopedia.thefreedictionary.com/Kh%c3%b6vsg%c3%b6l+Province) , but shortly afterwards in 1933 (encyclopedia.thefreedictionary.com/1933) the administration moved to Muren (encyclopedia.thefreedictionary.com/M%c3%b6r%c3%b6n+%28city%29) The town had about 6000 inhabitants and a power plant in (encyclopedia.thefreedictionary.com/M%c3%b6r%c3%b6n+%28city%29), but the dry-up of transport routes and the closure of a local wool factory have led to high migration rates, leaving only 3,756 inhabitants in 1994 (encyclopedia.thefreedictionary.com/1994) and 2,498 inhabitants in the 2000 (encyclopedia.thefreedictionary.com/2000) census. Very remote and nice natural place to visit! Wonderful lake (almost twin lake of great Lake Baikal). Lot of fish, meet, good homemade dairy products.
People are very friendly and hospitable. Accommodation is modest amd simple. Almost no roads. 4WD car needed.
(Be aware of drunk guys and stay away from them).

A very nice lake which is a good start to go Hiking or do some horse riding for a reasonable price. I really loved that desert place with none around. I would love to go back there.
