Jan 12, 2009 Fes is known for its leather goods. They dye them in the same way that were used during the Medieval times. At the end of the old souk , you start smelling something odd that you have never experienced before. You go upstairs and and you can see muscle bounded men soaking, cleaning and tanning leather in vats. You should have a perfume bottle with you to smell it because the smell is unbearable but it's worth it May 6, 2010 Smells really badly, but, the views are spectacular and you can get some really nice photos. Don't visit in lower floors due to unbearable smell. It is better to watch it from a nearby roof (we got "invited" in by a local boy through their leather shop. We didn't buy anything but gave the boy a tip for his time). Dec 11, 2009 Tanneries is the best place in Fes, maybe the only one you really should see in this city. I didn't really like the city. I think medina is better in Meknes. Also Rabat was more interesting for me than Fes. Anyway, tanneries are something specific, what I haven't see anywhere else...
