Jun 24, 2009 A great experience. If you can locate the tourist office, get a licensed guide who can take you around the whole day for about $20. It is the best money I spent in Morocco. The licensed guides are very knowledgeable of history, culture, and can tell you about all the different areas of the Medina and why it is organized the way it is. Getting lost is a fun experience, but I found that getting the guided tour helped in understanding how the city was laid out, when it is very difficult to navigate using Moroccan maps. The guide also took us to a wonderful, local, cheap place to eat lunch and introduced us to local shop keepers and artisans who taught us about how they make their wares (weave scarves, die leather bags etc.) Mar 26, 2009 A very medieval place where it is easy to lose your way. Be careful, and also be careful of the unofficial "guides". These people will follow you around even when you ask them not to, and if you ever start to look a little unsure of your way they will descend upon you. If you are lost and they point you in a direction be prepared for them to demand money later. Sometimes they will even lurk behind you and then demand money for their "guide services". It can be very annoying, so just be aware. Aug 11, 2008 The Medina is an old part of a city surrounded by walls. You can buy there everything from spices, meat of a bull, drugs to lamps, gold washbasins, handmade carpets etc. You can see there real life of people (not the tourist one). This place is worth to see for somebody who travels in Marocco. One more; you can lost there really quickly so be careful or take the medina's guide Nov 15, 2010 Go get lost .... it can happen and does happen. Everything is down one or two sketchy allys that some kids want you to pay them to take you down (whether or not they will rob you comes down to them .... but it doesnt happen often). I was over ran a few times and pulled into so many shops it got annoying, but I had fun for the day. Jun 10, 2008 A place one can get physically lost in with its 9000 odd streets and lanes. Forget the compass, the place is a dam maze; as much as I hate to say it, hire a tout to take you through the place as the comparitively small price paid is well worth what you get to see, hear and taste....
