Shona's alpine rental is one of the most reliable gear shops in Katmandu. they design the gear themself, using the best material (like Hyvent) and send to process in a Katmandu factory.

its cheaper then home, more expansive then other katmandu shops but worth every penny.

theire Hyvent rainproof windproof light jacket I bpught survived 2 snow storms in the everest base camp and a hell of a pre monsoon shower in the lower Lengtand valley. its adventages against lined gortex- lighter, compressed better, weight less and you dont need more in autom\spring in the mountains. use light fleece underneath and you dont need more...

Shona's husband is an australian climber vetyeran who knows a lot about the Himalaya and have many good advises.

best equipment store I have visited in this part of the world. run by nepali-australian couple with expert knowledge on every type of equipment. i have bought my leather sleeping bag for rs6000 - three times more than in average shop, but it was worth the price. where? Great place, no hassle or BS from this wonderful couple. I have a sleeping bag that I bought for about $83USD in November 2007, have used it lots and lots and still in great shape. Would've paid around $300USD for the same bag in the US
