just touristic shops, croudy... Also living statues that are more living than statue (as just folk trying to squeeze a buck out of people wearing a costume, Darth Vader, etc.) it's actually just a boring place except when they put the ice skating thing up around winter... some of the architecture though looks nice

Dam Square is a great place to enjoy the sights, sounds and smells of the city. It is a good starting point to see all the attractions the city has to offer, or you can just sit there and watch people go by all day. There is a monument, the palace, and in wintertime there is even a skating rink! Enjoy...

Dam Square on New Year's Eve is a great place to be! Music, fireworks and bucket loads of atmosphere. Be careful though as they let off fireworks in the crowd! Alos beware of pickpockets - someone nicked my hip flask - luckily it was only a cheap one and I had almost finished the contents :-)

The square itself is, well....nice. The shops and infamous red light district are nearby. The Anne Frank museum is within a walkable distance as well. Public urinals are an eyesore and even if you can't see them, you can smell them nearby.
