Rock Formation
Hienghene is a village that is set in an area of much natural beauty on the northeast coast of Grande Terre in New Caledonia.   There are some amazing rock formations here, such as the Poule Couveuse (Brooding Hen) formation located slightly offshore and the nearby towering black limestone formations of the Linderalique Cliffs.  Also check out the signposted viewpoints around Hienghene, where you can see the formations and also a panoramic view of the sea and river.   To the north of Hienghene are some dramatic lush landscapes and waterfalls, along with the last remaining river ferry in New Caledonia.

Hienghene is also known as a center of Kanak culture and the hometown of the assassinated pro-independence Kanak leader Jean-Marie Tjibaou.
