So I went to Lifou as part of a cruise in 2002. It is an island in New Calendonia. It has this beautiful long beach with white sand and clear blue water. perfect for laying on your towel, taking in some sun or swimming and snorkelling. The locals put on a market where you can buy all sorts of local handy crafts. We hired a bike and road around the island to some stone steps which we climbed and got to this lovely old church, the view up there was awesome. It was only the cruise passengers and the locals so it was not a crowded touristy area which was a big plus for me. So go on get there if you are travelling in the South pacific, it is definetly one to visit!!
