I found this place fascinating.  The aquarium was the reason we went, but we ended up really enjoying the Antarctic exhibit.  We rode the bus out from Auckland, but walked back.  It was an easy walk and if the weather is nice it is fun.

A wonderful place to experience the Antarctic in the early days of exploration. The Penguin display is wonderful to watch, and the moving path under the waterworld is an amazing experience, where one can see all creatures moving around their huge tanks.

The first ever underwater aquarium in the world! A great illustration of kiwi enginuity, including a south pole penguin experience riding through the 'snow' in the penguin enclosure, defintiely a must do in when visiting Auckland

Great place to start your NZ journey. I have been told if travelling NZ, start at the North Island, eg: Auckland, do the north and then travel south to the South Island, it gets better and better!!

A great place for kids and adults with interesting exhibits. The highlights is a ride on a simulated Antarctic explorer vehicle through the penguin exhibit.
