Muriwai Beach is an awesome place to spot the famous Muriwai Beach gannet colony! Go there for a good surf, enjoy the black sand, which is typical for Auckland´s Western beaches or simply lay back to watch an incredible sunset.The beach is perfect for a day trip to escape Auckland´s busy life style!

take a surfing lesson with the very nice local surfteacher (sometimes very strong and annoying current for beginners), afterwards a walk along the coast (great lookouts!!) and then have a delicious choclate muffin and a coffee at the restaurant

It is beautiful to spend a day at the beach and interesting for movie buffs as it was the location for Jane Campion's "The Piano." There is also a colorful variety of birds and it is a great fun for the whole family.

Probably the best beach in the Auckland region by a long shot. This is where they shot the film "The Piano," directed by the legendary film-maker Jane Campion. Don't miss the gannets when you are there.
