Named after a dormant volcano of the same name, Egmont National Park (also known as volcano Taranaki) was first established in New Zealand in 1900.  Numerous hiking trails for all interests and abilities can be found in the park from day treks and multi-day tramps to summit tracks up Mount Taranaki.  Rockclimbers will find some great rock.  There are 140 different routes ranging in height from 8 metres to 58 metres.   The park also features a beautiful rainforests juxtaposed beside alpine scenery.
