I happened to jump out of a plane over this lake.  Taupo Tandem skydiving is a must for thrill seekers!   The town is quaint and we happened to visit during a local festival that had plays and comedy shows so we saw some local humor that was very funny.  Ironically enough, I've seen the same lady in my own city here at our festivals.

We stayed in Taupo years ago. My memory of New Zealand is a lilly fuzzy now but i do still remember going down to the lake adn picking up the rocks. The rocks were volcanic so they floated in the water. It was strange coz they fely normal when you lifted them up but then when you threw them in they floated.

Beautiful Lake. Lots of fun activities in the area, including scenic helicopter rides, parasailing, diner cruises, and the HukaJet. All of these activities are also available in Queenstown, but if you don't make it that far south, Taupo is the next best place in NZ for some outdoor adventures.
