just a short ride by bike to waitangi, the treaty grounds are a nice green area, you can have a look at the biggest canoe in the world (43m i think), go into the treaty house (don't forget taking off your shoes :) ) and have a look around in the small museum. allow 1 hour or so, if you take the back entrance you may avoid paying $20 for the entry ;)
