Oct 30, 2008 You must try this! It's an adventure, for sure. Not for the faint hearted. The tour guides are useless, but do it anyway. You wear a wet suit, and then you take a tube into a cave and you float in it through an underground river system. You have a light on your helmet, but at certain points you're instructed to turn it off so you can see the glow worms on the cave ceiling. At one point, there is a waterfall, and you have to stand on the edge and jump backwards off of it, landing in your tube. the jump is only a few meters, but the darkness combined with the sharp rocks surrounding you make it pretty scary. One of the biggest thrills of my life so far. The water is freezing, but that didn't bother me as much as it did some people. Jan 9, 2010 We started the day with a hot breakfast and squeezed into out wet suits. A short drive down to the cave entrance and a practice in some shallow water for the jumps. Then we slowly climbed into the mouth of the cave and once everyone was inside we switched on our head torches. Then we walked, crawled and floated (in a rubber ring) through the cave. At times we had to do backwards jumps into deeper water, landing in our rings so we could float along. At the last part we switched off our lights and looked up to the ceiling covered in glow worms. A must do exprience for anyone in New Zealand!
