Ice Climbing
Ice climbing is full day activity, that requires moderate upper body strength, a sense of adventure and very little experience. As the guides will show you everything you need to know. It is avaliable on both Fox and Franz Josef Glaciers, however Fox is the quieter of the two.

Getting there:
Most people come from the north, via Hokitika and Franz Josef but the road is much quieter if you travel anticlockwise around the south island.

The best way to see a glacier. A little more costly then a day hike, but the experience is worth every cent. Having hiked on both Fox and Franz Josef my recommendation would be Fox Glacier, simply because less people go there. Both a beautiful places to visit a require a moderate level of fitness. However on Fox, with less people the groups are smaller, so you have more time to climbing the ice.

Nice place to stop by on your travelling. It's a small town and perfect if you need few hours break between all driving. Here's the place with the finest jade stone! You'll find small shops in the city centre and can view carvers in action. Design and carve jade yourself and maybe you can find one of these beautiful green stones when walking on the beach ;)
