The Isla de Ometepe is beautiful and majestic. Stay at Finca Magdalena for a truly rustic experience. Climbing the volcanoes is a tough adventure- you have to start early and get back late. Make sure you bring everything you need there- no convenient stores in sight. Sunscreen and a water bottle is a MUST. Very easy to get dehydrated climbing the mountain.

The only fresh water shark in the world in the lake. Climb both volcanoes, one of which is in the rain shadow of the other Concepción and Maderas, and definitely check out the glyphs with someone from the area. When I was there, there was an environmental youth group in town which gave tours.

Beautiful island, hike up the volcano maderas, it's hard but worth it! Rent a mountainbike, to have a 'nice' ride, be prepared your ass will hurt after it! You can't miss isla de ometepe when you visit nicaragua!

Isla de Ometepe is fantastic! Be prepared to get dirty- the hiking is stellar. Definitely stay at Finca Magdalena- the food is good and it is an extremely relaxing place.
