An old castle built to protect Oslo, Akershus Fortress was considered one of Norway's two most important castles.  The fortress has successfully withstood a number of sieges.  It has also been used as a prison.  The fortress is still considered a military area, but is open for public visits daily.

It's really nice there, especially when the weather is fine and you can lye in the gras.
