Located across the way from the town centre of Tromso, the cable car ride takes you up 421 metres above sea level up the Storsteinen where you have a panoramic view of the city and its surroundings.

I spent a few days scooting aroudn Tromso before having the chance to take the cable car ride up. The view from the top is absolutely spectacular. It can get cold and windy up there (especially in October when I went), but there is a restaurant up there so you can get yourself a nice cup of hot chocolate and wander. Numerous paths at the top take you to various viewpoints of the city, of the mountains behind and further. We were there as part of a tour so I didn't get as much of a chance to explore as I'd like, but well worth the visit if you are in town.

Fjellheisen gives you the ultimate view over Tromsø island and the islands around (and some of the mainlands). In the summer the cable car runs until midnights so you can go up and get a wonderful glance of the midnight sun.

Great view down to Tromso island! I preferred walking up and took the cable car to go back. It's a nice hiking path, not too steep ~ 1h walking time :-)
