Aug 12, 2009 Stavanger-----brief visit. Started as a short cruise with DFDS ferries, sailing on the "Queen of Scandinavia". It was a cheap deal, berth was free, paid environment and fuel tax and booked 2 breakfasts each. We got upgraded to a 4person room with a view. I am not so great on water, I always imagine this will be the time the boat sinks, when I am on it! Well, it was a bad crossing, the pool was closed, but i found my sea legs ok and actually enjoyed the whole trip immensely. We were situated at the entry deck level , round the corner from reception and behind the cafe. There were lifts and 2 cinemas, watched "Evans Almighty",shop etc. A huge "eat all you can" breakfast awaited us, lots of SMOKED food, danish pastries, etc. We left UK about 4.30pm and arrived in Stavanger about 10pm the next day, leaving only 15MINS on land before we had to start queueing again to board the ship. We walked a little bit round the dockside and took photos of the lovely buildings, the whole place seemed so clean and cared for. When we got to passport control, we especially asked to have ours STAMPED, just to give proof we did actually step onto land! Juvenile, I know, but great fun! The trip back was great, I saw a whale, headed right towards us and passed on the left side, so close. That really made my whole trip.I would go back to Stavanger, but take more time, and try going up to Pulpit Rock. Maybe try out a local tour guide, get a boat trip passing under the Rock, down the fjord.
