Fjord
Photography
Formed over 1 million years ago by retreating glaciers,  Nærøyfjord is a 18km long branch of the world's second longest fjord - Sognefjord.  Nærøyfjord is considered one of the narrowest fjords in the world, at one point, only reaching 250 metres across, while crystalline rock mountains tower more than 1,500 metres above water.  It is thought that in the winter months, the sun may not reach the bottom of the fjords.  Traditional farms, some of which have been abandoned, can be found along the fjord.

Popular activities include kayaking, hiking, or taking boat cruises.  Nærøyfjord and Geirangerfjord are collectively referred to as the Western Norwegian Fjords, and are listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
