Baroniet Rosendal
About Baroniet Rosendal
Nestled between soaring mountains close to the fjord, the Baroniet Rosendal is sometimes referred to as the "smallest castle in Scandanvia." This castle dates back to the 1650's when Ludwig Rosenkrantz came to build this castle. It was elevated to a barony in 1678, and features a renaissance garden nearby, a greenhouse with herbs and vegetables that are actually served in the adjacent restaurant, a stable and more. The Barony has been converted into a museum which also hosts private functions. The Barony is owned by the University of Oslo when the last owner donated it in 1927.

Nov 5, 2008 I know this was one of the top attractions in the Kvinnherad area. The Barony itself was interesting to see - especially given its distinction as the smallest castle in Scandinavia. The scenery around it with waterfalls streaming down as a backdrop behind dramatic mountains was totally spectacular. But I was a bit disappointed to see what I consider a historical place being used for private functions. knowing that marred my impressions a little, but it's still a beautiful surrounding to walk around, and worth a visit if you're in the area.
