Oct 8, 2008 This is market you may not have ever seen before. It is smelly, wet chaotic. The sellers are all local Omanis and they sell all kinds of seafood. You have to get there for 6am and I believe it closes at 10am as by then they would have sold all their produce. The fish they sell is cheap and comes straight off the fishing boats on to their tables or floor. Once I bought 3kilos of giant prawns for £3 each lobster for £2. Now that is cheap and some of the prawns were still wriggling and the lobsters still alive. If you do not like fish or like to clean them after then that is not the place for you. You will even find small sharks, squid, huge fish (not sure what they are named), live crabs, etc, etc. I have even seen some westerners who frequent the market come prepared with their cooler boxes just to fill their shopping of seafood. I have also seen some restaurant chefs buying their seafood from there. If you are even earlier you will even seen the fishermen offload their catch of the day to their sellers - really fascinating.
