Palmyra Atoll
About Palmyra Atoll
Palmyra Atoll is a national wildlife refuge under the control of the US, and is off limits except for those with special permits. It consists of 52 islets that are set among pretty coral reefs and several beautiful lagoons. These shallow lagoons contain many white tip, black tip, and grey sharks – making the waters dangerous to swim in. Its reef system is one of the most diverse in the world and there are also many boobies that call the atoll home. Palmyra Atoll is certainly a beautiful and pristine place to visit – known as “a place time forgot”, but it is unfortunately not accessible for most people.
