THE MARCAHUASI STONE FOREST aka Markawasi The colossal stone statues on the Markawasi plateu were first discovered in Peru in 1952 by Daniel Ruzo. Soaring 12,000 feet above the Pacific coast on the western-most ridge of the Peruvian Andes, it is an easy 1/2 day journey from Lima to Chosica (45 minutes), and continue by car or local bus to San Pedro de Casta, about 3 hours. Food, accommodations, and guide services are available in the village; camping in Markawasi (Marcahuasi). Bring your own gear, best times to visit May through October. Pick up a copy of “Markawasi: Peru’s Inexplicable Stone Forest” by Kathy Doore, for maps, gps readings and photos of the stone forest! Payment Accepted:
