This intermittent lake dries up into a salt flat during the dry months of May to December. The size of this lake varies greatly from year to year, depending on how much it rains during the wet season. When the lake full of water, it attracts flamingos and other waterbirds. At an elevation of 4300 meters, it's about a 2-day hike around the lake.

Getting there:
This lake is located to the northwest of Ubinas, about 50 kilometers east of Arequipa, along the road that joins the two town. Visitors can take the Ubinas-bound bus from Arequipa to get to the lake, but it is difficult to get on the bus back, as it is often full when returning from Ubinas and passing the lake of the way back. On of the trails around this lake follows the Rio Andamayo to the town of Chiguata (full-day hike) where there is a 4:00pm bus going back to Arequipa.
