Jan 24, 2012 Visiting Auschwitz made a very profound impression on me. The smell of death is everywhere, even 60 years after it was freed. The walls of the houses (yes, houses, not barracks) are lined with countless of photographs of men and women with shaven heads (hardly any children; they were considered useless for work, so the Nazis disposed of them as soon as they arrived at the camp) staring into the camera and down upon the visitors. Behind walls of glass lays everything the Nazis took from the prisoners: prosthetic legs, suitcases, family photos, dolls, coats, and even human hair that was shaved of for "hygienic reasons". The air in Auschwitz is suffocating, but I think it's a very important site to visit. Sep 25, 2008 Auschwitz is a sad pleace but I like spend time in Auschwitz and thinking about peoples whose died there. My favorite pleace is barakue nr 11 and when I be there I wondering why dr Mengele has doing experiments of childrens whose was there and how much they were agonize .. It is horrible and make my cry... (sorry for my english if I did some mistake) Sep 7, 2008 What can you really say about a death camp? It is a fascinating place, but extreemly eery. As specially standing in a Gas chamber where up to 10,000 russian POW's were gassed. As Museums go, you cant get much better. The English Speaking tour guides were fantastic and totally knoledgeable. Being there really makes you think about what occured there. One of the main things I noticed when I was there, was the complete lack of Birds. It is as if they can sense what went on there and avoid it. Mar 22, 2011 The museum itself gives a great account of the horrible events that happened during the holocaust. I would personally recommend going with a guide because it is quite difficult to comprehend the magnitude of the event without a living, breathing person there with you. The tour itself won't cost very much (around 20 Zloty) so its definitely worth it. Mar 24, 2009 You can hardly call it a favorite ... but it is a MUST ... the horror hits you hard in the deepest of your being. If you ever wonder why we should not like so and so, why there should be us and them or hatred because of skin, creed or origin ... think about what happend in the woods behind Oswiecim.
