Warsaw is a rapidly modernizing European style city. The old town is reconstructed as is most of Warsaw after the war. There are other historical places to visit. It is safe to walk about at night. It is possible to get around without speaking Polish as there are many of the more educated people who can speak English. The supermarkets might be a bit more problematic with language but if you limit your purchases to what you can select yourself you can get by. It is possible to purchase a ticket for all forms of transport: underground (metro), bus and tram for a week or month. The destinations are marked for the numbered lines at stops so it is quite convenient to travel. Probably good to get a Polish friend to help with the purchase of the correct ticket no photo required. They have a number of malls (Galleria) these days and there are night spots. The city is flat with the river adding some natural features. The people are friendly enough. Apparently one should always call for a taxi and not just take one to avoid getting taken for a ride.

rebuilt after war,square quite small and not really fancy, fortunately surrounded by some nice places in the neighbourhood. Lot of expensive restaurants and pubs, however sometimes you can find a really good offer for a beer :) The Warsaw mermaid is compulsory to see but all in all Old Town Square is not the no 1. place to visit in Warsaw!

Great resturants with typical Polish and eastern food, althoug more expensive than in most of Warsaw. Cheap booze and a very pleasant atmosphere. Worth a vistit or two and from here you can walk along the street where the president lives and if you are lucky like me you can sneak onto the campus of the university.

Eu adoro a Polonia e Varsovia representa muito bem o pais. Embora tenha sido devastada por varias guerras, esta totalmente reconstruida e moderna, mostrando a força do povo polonês.
O que achei mais interessante foi a mistura do velho e do novo e da beleza das pessoas. Vale a pena ir com certeza

Built from the ruins of the Second World War, the Old Town Square is marvellous achievement for the former beseiged city, Poland and on architectural terms. The restaurants here are all quite fancy and expensive but its worth trying. The cathedarl in the Old Town Square is a must visit!
