Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Conceição
About Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Conceição
The present-day building, which was designed and erected on the site of the early Gothic temple at the time of the 1569 expansion works (Dom Sebastião) is divided into three naves, each with a series of five rounded arches supported by powerful Doric columns. The whitewashed ceilings are vaulted and the central section bears the royal arms of Portugal. The walls are covered by traditional 17th century tiles. In all there are 6 chapels situated at the end and the sides. The whitewashed masonry façade terminates in a broad triangular frontage, divided by marble pilasters directly reflecting the internal division. A single tower, square in section, is situated at the northern corner.

Jul 21, 2009 Hidden pearls next to the castle. If there is one place where you can see this town has too much marble it is here. Really nice façade but the true beauty is inside. Inside the church there is a stand where you can get a leaflet with some history and explanation. The really nice part is, weird as it may sound, the graveyard next to it. This is just a great combination of white marble and colourfull plastic flowers surrounded by a old castle wall.
