Sep 19, 2010 Situated in the heart of the city you find an elevator which connects downtown with Largo do Carmo. The architect of the building is Raul Mesnier du Ponsard and not Gustave Eiffel like many people would like to think. If you aren't afraid of hights you will here a nice view on the centre of Lissabon. Sep 26, 2009 Beautiful views of the entire city. The elevator itself is closed on Sundays, but no matter what day, it doesn't cost anything to take the spiral staircase to the top, except if you have a fear of heights. Definately a easy must-do stop when exploring Lisboa. Sep 27, 2009 Great view over Lisbon Castle's hill. It has a geo-gothic iron structure and connects the down town streets with Largo do Carmo. Construction began in 1900 and was finished in 1902; originally powered by steam, it was converted to electrical operation in 1907. Dec 26, 2009 It is worth to take the age-old elevator and climb a few crazy (not for vertigoids) steps on the tiny staircase to the top from the cafe level. The small cafe working on top already gives a special ambience to the tower made of stylish cast iron. Aug 6, 2011 Beautiful structure. You can't miss it walking through Lisbon. If you have the money to spare take a ride. Otherwise there are many different ways to get to the Bairro Alto that don't cost anything.
