Situated at the river Taag in the small city of Belém it is one of the most remarkble buildings and one of the most important symbol of the city. It used to be a state prison but nowadays it is a museum. On the roof of the tower you can see beautiful views of the river.

The whole area of Belem is gorgeous!! If you go there, make sure you have a typical pastery: the "pastel de Belém". And if you are with Portuguese people, make them take you to Carece, for an amazing croissant. Trust me!! ;P

Beautiful place! History and beaty architecture together in front of the sea. With Rio Tejo in the background the monument is full of references to the loyal family of Portugal.

While in Lisbon, don't miss a visit to Torre de Belé, the famous departure point for the portuguese explorers in their trips round the world a few centuries ago!
