El Portal Rain Forest Center
About El Portal Rain Forest Center
The El Portal Rain Forest Center provides an excellent education and introduction to the El Yunque National Forest. This center was built in 1996 and contains a theatre that shows a short film about the El Yunque National Forest and the archaeological and conservation programs of the Forest Service. Three theme pavilions contain displays that help you understand the contents and ecosystem of the forest, how the forest helps create medicines and build household products, and how conservation management helps products the rainforest from the threats that it faces. The building blends into the surrounding rainforest, and there is an interpretive nature trail as well as an elevated walkway that takes you along the forest canopy.
