you need to rent a car to get here. it is off the main road leading out of san juan. there is a place to park and you can follow a hiking trail that brings you through the rainforest. if you continue it you will come upon a beautiful waterfall with a small pool at the bottom that you can splash around in. caution, it's chilly! i recommend getting there early so you have enough time to stroll the trail the whole way through and appreciate the flowers, trees, birds, and bugs. once it starts getting dark, there are no lights and it becomes very difficult to see.

this rainforest is a beautiful way to spend a long afternoon in puerto rico. located about 30 minutes outside of san juan, you will need a car to get here. it is an easy drive - i'm sure any concierge will be able to point you in the right direction.

pack a lunch you can carry with you into the forest. wear your bathing suit under your clothes in case you decide to take a plunge under the waterfall (the water is very cold though!). take the time to stroll along the trails and absorb the sounds, smells, and sights of this majestic rainforest. hug a tree, watch a hummingbird, even feed a stray dog or two (i met them in the parking lot, not in the forest). make sure to go with plenty of sunlight left because once night falls, it's extremely difficult to see.
