Parliament Building
The massive and grand Palace of the Parliament is the world’s second largest building based on floor space (after the Pentagon) and measures out at over 330,000 sq. meters.   There are 1,100 rooms, 12 above ground stories, and 4 completed underground levels (with another 4 incomplete).  The complex measures 270 meters by 240 meters, and is 86 meters high, while extending 92 meters underground.   As you can imagine, it required an enormous amount of material, all of which was Romanian in origin, as well as 20,000 workers.  The material includes opulent choices such as marble, velvet, and hardwoods.  Much of historic Bucharest was also destroyed to clear space for this and other buildings.  It is the current home of Romania’s Parliament and Senate.

The Palace of the Parliament also contains a couple museums – the National Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Museum of Totalitarianism.

it is one of the largest buildings in the world and until the pentagon was build it was the largest. It was build by a maniac, the last communist ruller of Romania with the sacrifice of people that no one will ever know because all workers who were chosen for building the secret bunckers below were after killed and erased from the national records, as they were never born.

Incredible building. Everything was made in Romania so you can appreciate the dedication of the citizens to produce such an amazing piece of architecture. The only sad part was that the building is so expensive to run, rooms the size of football stadiums with enough marble to tile every house in America are furnished with cheap IKEA furniture.

It is the largest building on earth, bigger than Pentagon, but it was builted only in the 80's, so when Pentagon was builted, that was the largest building on earth, but since then, this is it. The buildings interior is still not finished, almost half of it is empty, altough they work on it.

Amazing building, definitely a must-see when you are in Bucharest. Our tour included a history of the government who built it and access to several of the grandiose areas within the building.

Awesomely big, but tour is disappointing. Try getting some facts other than the number of rooms, and how long it took to build, and you'll be sorely disappointed.
