For most visitors, Red Square is indelibly associated with images of stonefaced Soviet leaders standing in the bitter cold as a panoply of military might rumbles past their review stand atop Lenin's Mausoleum. Although the Square is no longer witness to the imposing parades of May Day, it remains a profoundly impressive space. Delimited by the stark severity of the mausoleum, the expansive facade of the world-famous GUM department store, and the exuberant colors of St. Basil's Cathedral, Red Square is, and deserves to be, the requisite first stop for any visitor to Moscow.

That's where you can fid one f the most beautiful Orthodox cathedrals - St Basil's Cathedral. Find a good guide - he or she will tell you the legend about how it was built in the 16th century.
There's also Lenin's Masoleum - that's where you can see a modern mummy. Having a dead body in the heart of Moscow is a controversial issue. That's what people keep discussing since 1991 when the USSR disappeared.
There's a big shopping centre called GUM which was built in times of the USSR as well. And before you enter the Red Square, you can see a colorful building on the right, that's the Historical Museum.
You may walk around the Kremlin and enjoy the sights.

The square separates the Kremlin, the former royal citadel and currently the official residence of the President of Russia, from a historic merchant quarter known as Kitai-gorod. As major streets of Moscow radiate from here in all directions, being promoted to major highways outside the city, Red Square is often considered the central square of Moscow and all of Russia.
