It's more than a fortress, it's a cathedral, a prison, a cemetery...Peter the Great defied nature and built it on the unstable island. Later it was used as a political prison where famous people as Dostoyevsky, Chernyshevsky and Gorky were kept there. The cathedral had the biggest bell and the tallest spire (122.5 meters). It's also the burial place of Peter the Great and the Romanovos.

When you go down to the river it's amazing. I was there in Febuary and there the rivers were totally frozen. I've never experience such low temperatures and such a cold weather, but it's worth it!
Very different but soo amazing and fantastic!

It's great there in early autumn, very quiet and the park looks marvelous when leaves turn yellow.
