What's There:
Description:
Situated in the Caucasus mountain range near the border of Georgia, Mount Elbrus is one of the seven summits, and is the tallest mountain in Europe at 5,642 metres (18,510 feet).  There is a slightly lower summit of 5,621 metres (18,442 feet)

Mount Elbrus is a stratovolcano that has been dormant for about 2,000 years.  First climbed in 1868, it is now a popular destination for trekkers and mountaineers.  The mountain can be partially accessed by cable car which starts at 2,220 metres in Azau up to Stary Krugozor at 2,900 metres, then to Mir station at 3,500 metres.  A chairlift can take you further to 3,750 metres to "Barrels" huts.

Elbrus can be climbed by various routes, with the "normal" route considered the easiest, safest, and east technical.  It is considered one of the easier Seven Summit climbs.  Other more demanding routes cross glaciers, and can require camping in bivouacs.

Those interested in exploring the terrain can explore the many trekking trails over and around the nearby passes.  Trekkers will need to carry their own camping equipment and food however.
Getting there:
Situated about 20km north of the Greater Caucasus mountains and about 65km south of the town of Kislovodsk.  Mount Elbrus is close to the border of Georgia.
