The Sentosa island of Singapore is a popular outdoor tourist destination with a 3.2 km beach. The island is covered with tropical rain forest that is home to many wild life such as peacocks, parrots, monkeys and even monitor lizards. You are never far from nature while you are on the island of Sentosa, and yet there are more then enough amazing activities on the island to make it one of the most visited places in the world.

Although a small island, it attracts about two million visitors each year. This small island offers a world of entertainment for everyone, whether a child, a youth or an adult. The charm of the island coupled with beautiful natural surroundings leaves a mesmerizing impression on visitors. There are tons of activities in this island to keep you occupied for a few days. Be prepared to get so absorbed in a number of things never seen and done before.

The island is famous for its underwater world and dolphin lagoon. This is an Oceanarium located on the western side of the island (Siloso Beach). The Sentosa underwater world is home to over 250 species of aquatic life. It has a 82 meters long underwater glass tunnel for a never before close encounter with marine life. The dolphin lagoon is where people catch a spectacular performance by rare pink dolphins.

For the adventurous, you will not find yourself free from some thrilling activities. The Tiger Sky Tower, is a 110 meters above ground level and 131 meters above the sea observation tower. You can catch a breathtaking panoramic view of Singapore, the Sentosa Island and even neighboring countries like Indonesia. The Sentosa Skyride is an aerial chair lift cableway that brings you on top of those trees and greeneries. The Sentosa Luge is a go-kart like self-driving car system driven by gravity down a 650 meter slope. Both promise an unforgettable experience.

Another popular destination is the Sentosa Butterfly Park and Insect Kingdom. While the insect kingdom is famous for its 3,000 species of rare insects from around the world, the butterfly park houses more than 50 different species of live butterflies.

For those who do not want to be away from technology, Cineblast promises a ride of a life time with stunning 3D simulation equipped with advanced sound and light effects. The Sentosa 4D magix is another high-tech 20 seat theater offering you a movie experience like never before with its incredible surround sound, visual effects, motion seats and unique "live" environmental effects.

The island of Sentosa is also home to the world only musical performance set in the sea named “Songs of the Sea”. It is a musical play with dramatic and spectacular display of fireworks, visual and laser effects that are out-of-this-world.

Besides the Sentosa attractions and interesting activities, the wonderful Sentosa beach and the large joints of restaurants, café and beer gardens will make the visit even more enjoyable.

My day at Sentosa was by far my favorite day in Singapore. In the morning, I helped the staff at the Singapore Aquarium feed the animals and in later did the Dolphin experience. The afternoon was spent having a leisurely lunch near the beach. Truly a gem and a relaxing contrast the the hustle and bustle of the Singapore proper.

I can remember when I living in Singapore as a little girl the Singapore government realised that perhaps Sentosa Island had a lot to offer as a tourist site both for locals and for foreigners. We used to go to Sentosa on a school trip and either camp out or there were little self catering colonnial type of chalets and nothing much. As time went on more money was ploughed into Sentosa and ferry crossing was an added means of getting there. No public cars were allowed into Sentosa besides there was no roads that connected to mainland Singapore anyway. A few years later the cable car and cable car station was built. The attractions in Sentosa Island was Siloso Fort the beach. Siloso Fort was a defense base (still with it's original cannons firmly pointing towards the sea) against the attack from the Japanese navy in World War II. In the early years there was a small number of islanders in what was called 'kampungs' (village in the Malay Language) but sadly progress invaded the island - gradually squeezing the villagers out and re-housed into the mainland. Sentosa has come a long way from a sleepy and forgotten fishing island to what it is now. Yes it is exciting to go to Sentosa as there is just so much attractions and the beaches are simply devine. However the heart and soul of Sentosa has been ripped out to what it is now a shallow shell filled with attractions and hotels that makes it look like Moulin Rouge on a small island. You can understand what I mean now. I remember at one time I was too terrified to go on the cable car after hearing how a ship's mast was too high that it ripped off one of the cables causing one of the cars to tumble down 200 feet into the sea below. If I remember correctly there were 2 dead and a few more injured. Of course that was just a freak accident and not very likely to happen ever again but since they linked Sentosa to the mainland by road I was re-assured in going back - but by road. By all means you have to go and see Sentosa otherwise you will not have completed your trip to Singapore. Remember Singapore is not a cheap place to travel to and neither is Sentosa but still exciting and worth a trip.

I have spent alot of Time in SG and I have to say it is by far my most favorite place in the world. It is a place with such a cultural diverse atmosphere where people work together calmly and intelegently and happily. I am still looking forward to the day that I can move there and retire there. The food is second to none, It fresh seafood and Veg. is good for the health and the true cultural flare of its people adds its true Asain spice.

This place is really cool! Going there is very convenient. You can either go there via train or via bus, or via cable car. Amazing, fun show are everywhere. I like the dolphin show, underwater world and song of the sea. So if you want to visit Singapore, don't forget to pass by the Sentosa Island. It is truly one great experience you will have.
