Zabrze has seen better industrial days but is a nicely renovated city with a rich mining history. You can take tours down the old coal mines with great guides (Polish, German and a bit of English speaking) who worked the mines themselves. Take the old tramway to get to Zabrze from Gliwice or Katowice ... it is worth the trip.
