Postojna Cave is a network of 20 kilometres of passages, galleries and chambers into which experienced guides have accompanied more than 31 million visitors in the last 188 years. It is the largest cave in the “classic karst” and the most vis¬ited show cave in Europe. In 1872 railway lines were laid in the cave; electricity arrived in 1884. Today you begin your visit aboard the cave train; the electric lighting allows you to admire the size and splendour of the underground world, where the geological past is recorded in a unique manner. Visitors to the cave are dazzled by a wealth of speleothems: calcite formations, stalactites and stalagmites abounding in a variety of shapes, colours and age. The constant temperatureinthe caves ranges from 8 to 10° C. A guided visit lasts an hour and a half.

During the Christmas and New Year holiday period, the Bible story of the birth of Jesus is presented in the exquisite stalactite-bedecked space of Postojna Cave. Visitors can view the scene, which is presented by local young people, in passing, while taking a gentle stroll through the Postojna under-world of the Beautiful Caves.

Sistem postojnskih jam je največji znani jamski sistem v Sloveniji. Na svetu je veliko daljših jam, vendar obisk jame, kot je Postojnska, zasluži vso pozornost zaradi raznolikosti oblik, obsežnih jamskih prostorov, kapniških oblik in vodnih značilnosti. Posebej je pomembno, da lahko večino teh različnih oblik in pojavov vidi vsak obiskovalec – turist in ne le jamar s posebno jamarsko opremo. Postojnska jama je v večjem delu urejene turistične poti namreč horizontalna jama, zato obisk jame ne predstavlja težave skoraj nikomur.

Le Grotte di Postumia sono un meraviglioso intreccio di caverne e gallerie di circa 20km. Il percorso guidato all'interno è molto bello e non faticoso. Durante il tour si ha la possibilità ovviamente di osservare stalattiti e stalagmiti di ogni dimensione ed anche un animaletto molto simpatico, il proteo .

Postojna Cave is a 20,570 m long Karst cave system near Postojna, Slovenia. It is the longest cave system in the country as well as one of its top tourism sites. The caves were created by the Pivka River. The caves are home to the endemic olm, the largest trogloditic amphibian in the world. The tour through the caves includes an aquarium with some olms in it. You must see it!

Nice huge cave . The good part is that everybody can go there , even with a wheeling chair or slowly moving . The bad part is that is overcrowded and a bit massive tourist destination . But is totally worth the visit .

A must-see! The cave, almost 21km long, is one of the biggest in Europe. A tour is highly recommended, you won't regret it. The only setback ...just be aware: it's very cold inside, even by the summer.
