Lake Te'Nggano
About Lake Te'Nggano
Lake Te’Nggano is a world heritage site and the South Pacific’s largest freshwater lake. At 130 sq. km, it takes up much of Rennell Island. Rennell Island is a raised coral atoll, so the cliffs around the lake are the old reefs. You can hire a boat or canoe to take a tour around the lake or do some guided rainforest walks. There are many coral islets scattered along the western end of the lake, and Octopus Cave on the north side. Excellent views of the lake can be had from Tuangonga Bay. Lake Te’Nggano contains a diverse array of wildlife such as cormorants, boobies, and the Rennell white spoonbill.
