Getting there:
Getting to Lesotho via the Sani Pass need a 4X4 and nerves of steel (unless the road is now tarred - work had begun on this back in 2009). If you don't have your own transport you can arrange a trip with one of the companies advertising on the web - look under "Sani Pass" for options. An enjoyable option is to stay at Sani Pass Backpackers (transport can be arranged by other backpackers lodges in Durban or Pietermaritzburg), who arrange transport or short tours up the 22km pass to Lesotho. Also possible to hike (although I'd suggest you save this for the downward trek - expect it to take about 3 - 5 hours). I don't know about transport links once you reach Lesotho, but I'm certain it's do-able. However there is accommodation, food and drink at the top, as well as some fantastic hiking opportunities. Views all the way up and from the top are amazing, as is the hiking. Don't forget your passport.

Feb 6, 2010 Brilliant views, hair-raising switchbacks and hairpin bends, interesting geology, fauna and flora. The only road into Lesotho from KwaZulu-Natal. There's the brilliant and laid back Sani Pass Backpackers at the bottom (transport available to and from Pietermaritzburg) and the Sani Top Chalet perched on the very precipice at the top with excellent food and roaring fire, the highest pub in Africa at 1950 metres. Besides homely rooms they also have backpackers' accommodation, but if you're not part of a large group you might want to give this a miss: although there's an open fire and wood aplenty it's basic and lonely, and the kitchen some metres away is a huge, grim, unwelcoming, draughty hall of a place.
