From Johannesburg: Take the Brits R512 (past Lanseria Airport) to Hartbeespoort Dam. Cross dam over open bridge and turn right at T-junction, on to four-way stop at the Craft Market (garage on right hand side and one opposite as well). Turn left and travel 2.5km to The Elephant Sanctuary. We are on the left side on the road. From Pretoria: Follow route to Hartbeespoort Dam. Travel through tunnel. At the four-way stop at the Craft Market, continue 2.5km to The Elephant Sanctuary. We are on the left hand side of the road.

Although not exactly cheap and a bit of a drive from Pretoria or Johannesburg, a visit to the Elephant Sanctuary is well worth both the time and the money. During the approximately 2-3 hour guided tour you get as close and personal as you could ever want with African elephants. And after a visit to the elephants, drive a few hundred meters more and visit the Bush Baby Monkey Sanctuary.

Highly recommended place for a day visit! You get to walk with elephants, touch them, get a 'kiss' from them, and even ride them (if you book before the tour). It is a bit expensive, but completely worth it fr this incredible experience!
