The building itself is a masterpiece of design with its grand central atrium and long sweeping galleries. Its style is distinctly modern and curvaceous, with many contoured surfaces. Contained within are other works of art with a focus on the second half of the 20th century. Some of the artists featured include Picasso, Pollock, Warhol, and Basquiat. The ground floor contains large format and installation works by leading artists such as Serra. Payment Accepted:

Oct 16, 2008 The Guggenheim is well worth the trip to Bilbao. The modern art it contains is wonderful but the building is an artwork in itself. It has to be seen to be believed but Gehry-designed building has such grace and beauty, it sits perfectly in its surrounds and you'll want to visit it more than once. Visit at sunset and prepare to be amazed. Feb 24, 2009 Contrary to what is usually written about Bilbo (Bilbao), I found the city clean and warm. I liked the walk by the river, Museum of Fine Arts and, of course, Gugenheim and it's Puppy. Well worth of staying 2-3 days (as it is quite small), but you can make the day trips to near by Guernica and Donostia (San Sebastian) Oct 29, 2008 The museum's scope is a little frustrating, but of all the modern art out there some of the best of it is definitely to be found here (audio guides explain some of the finer points of the collection and the building itself). All other things aside, the Guggenheim merits a visit if only because of its design. Jul 4, 2008 Visited in first year of being open. The building exterior is, of course, mesmerizing. The interiors are a bit tricky as exhibition spaces but beautiful just the same. How can you not love the huge Koons piece out front. Related Links
