Dec 3, 2009 The red rock-pebbles-gravel like ground is still hot from the inactive volcano on the island. At the park there is a restaurant lifted off the ground where they have a huge deep fire pit where they barbecue their meat using the heat emanating from the earth! And, there are geysers outside that shoot off hot steam. Also, there is a man there with a shovel who will put a hand full of the gravel in your hands so you can feel how hot the ground is. You'll drop the hand full in under a second! Trust! But, it's not bad - it's fun! Definitely a must! The other cool thing on the island are the vineyards and amazing wine! And really cool jewelry made from stones that were refined from the lava rocks. Lime green stones. Very cool. Apr 18, 2010 Spanish national park covering the municipalities of southern portion of Tinajo and the northern portion of Yaiza in the southwestern part of the island of Lanzarote. The area is 51.07 square kilometres (19.72 sq mi). The parkland is entirely made up of volcanic soil. The statue "El Diablo" by César Manrique is its symbol. The National Park of Timanfaya is the clearest exponent of the volcanic origins of the island. Its reds, ocres and blacks form a lunar landscape that will not leave visitors indifferent. Unusual viev!
