Dec 3, 2008 The highest point in Spain isn't actually on the mainland, it's on the island of Tenerife in the Canary Islands, a small chain of islands off the coast of Morrocco, but a possession of Spain. El Tiede, a dormant volcano, lies above the clouds at just over 14,000 feet above sea level. Situated in the middle of the island, the peak is easily reachable through the use of a gondola. But be prepared if you decide to explore El Tiede. Although this island chain enjoys a tropical environment year-round, the temperature at the peak is typically in the 30s, so bring a jacket and pair of jeans, and leave the sandals for one of the many beaches. Oct 8, 2008 There is a cable car that whisks you up 1200m almost to the peak.. still not the top (the trail to the peak was closed due to ice/snow when I was there). The peak often is shrouded in clouds, but was totally clear for us (that's Mt. Teide in the background my bio pic). Related Links
