The massive El Escorial building is located less than one hour’s drive north of Madrid and has many different functions.  It is probably best known as a functioning monastery and a formerly inhabited royal palace, but also is/was a library, school, mausoleum, and museum.  Commissioned by King Philip II, El Escorial was completed in 1584 and has 1,200 doors, 2,673 windows and 88 fountains.

I stayed in the lower town once for two weeks.  I would walk to the upper town where El Escorial is located, grab a bite to eat and then walk the grounds.  I never tired of it.  The interior is just as interesting.  Members of the royal family are buried here.

I was impressed by this massive structure! And I must say I was even more impressed by the hundreds of royal tombs that rest in this multi-tasking building. Amazing! Recommend it 100%

Me parece uqe es un lugar que representa la realeza española, y representaba algo de los pueblos americanos. Guste o no nos guste.
